JDFC Round1 Bective 2-03 Ballivor 0-06

Bective Junior D team enjoyed the dry ground conditions in Dunganny in this championship first round match versus Ballivor. Ballivor started strong and looked threatening and opened the scoring with a fine point. Bective with a slight diagonal wind advantage struggled to convert their opportunities early on but were creating plenty of chances. Bective leveled with a point from Michael Lyness before Jack Clarke intercepted a short kick out and confidently booted the ball to the back of the net. Pauric McConnell was introduced into the Bective attack and continually showed for the ball and linked well. Half time score was Bective 1-1, Ballivor 0.1.
Ballivor score 2 points early in the second half and put it up to a relatively young Bective outfit but they continued to work the ball well up the field but were as effective in front of goal with many missed chances. However Jack Clarke took the initiative again and got on the end of a good move but was pulled down inside the small square. Michael dispatched the penalty to the net and a 4 point gap opened up in this low scoring game. Ballivor responded with a couple of points but Bective replied with a point by Ronan Murtagh from a “45”. Bective introduced Neil Dowdall who showed plenty of skill on the ball and Bective score a further point. Ballivor, now running out of time, press for a goal but were held out by a strong Bective full back line, led by Gary Brennan, and can only manage another point before the final whistle. Bective displayed plenty of enterprise and willing to do the hard running, particularly David Fitzpatrick, Donagh Garvey and Colm Barry, and should have been further ahead and not under pressure for the final 5 minutes.
